Advising Mission Statement
Completed by the Mission Statement task group.
Advising at Truman State University is student-centered. It is a collaborative, campus-wide endeavor involving faculty, staff, and students in both formal and informal relationships. It is a key component of student development and wellness within the context of a liberal arts education.
Advising empowers the Truman student community–from prospective students through alumni–to take ownership of their future by setting and achieving holistic, individualized goals for students both during their time at Truman and after graduation.
Advisors and students partner together to prepare students for lifelong success.

Advising Training
Designed by the Steering Committee and offered by the Center for Academic Excellence.
The Center for Academic Excellence now offers advising training to help new faculty advisors quickly build the skills they need to feel confident in an advising role. Designed to build on the APDC’s foundational advising content for new faculty and delivered by a professional CAE advisor in a compact format of two 1-hour sessions, the training focuses on need-to-know advising concepts and tools. This training is designed to meet the needs of new advisors, but experienced faculty advisors and staff with advising duties are welcome as well.
