Truman Week is designed to help first-year students adjust to
college life at Truman. This one-week program takes place the week before the
fall semester begins. Students take part in classes, campus and community
tours, a variety of social events, introductions to majors, and other activities
that introduce them to Truman. Students begin one of their fall semester
courses with their college professor during Truman Week. Getting to know this
professor and the students in the class provide a supportive environment for the
students’ academic transition to Truman.
Meetings with academic advisors are scheduled during Truman Week. Students meet their academic advisors to get acquainted and to begin the advisee/advisor relationship. They have the opportunity to get answers to their initial questions and to make any fall class changes.
"Truman Week was great because I enjoyed being able to
meet new people and spend the week getting to know them. I also liked it because
it gave me the opportunity to explore campus and get acquainted with my major
before classes started."
--Anna Sonderman, Exercise Science
"My Truman Week extended class has provided me with the
longest friendships I've had here. We study together, hang-out outside of class
together and generally have a group bond that is something I would never give
up."
--Kari Willhite, Political Science & Justice Systems
"Students are able to develop relationships with other
students and a professor. I had a professor I could talk with about
problems I was having with school. I had a group of peers who I had gotten to
know well and I could relate with them because we had commonly shared
experiences during Truman Week."
--William (B.J.) White, History, Pre-MAE
