Undergraduate Student Research

Truman State University recognizes the importance of student scholarly work in every field of study. The University provides learning communities in which students and faculty work together on faculty-directed research projects. A student who is research-oriented or who plans to seek advanced training in his or her field may develop a research program which culminates in a research project with faculty. Truman undergraduates have published their research findings in national journals, presented at professional conferences, and participated in Truman’s annual research conference.

"What I like most about Truman is the undergraduate research. I have developed a close relationship with a faculty mentor and have learned research techniques and how to operate equipment that at larger schools is solely reserved for professors."
–Angie Ingraham; Aurora, IL

Student Research Conference
Truman professors mentor students as they develop a research idea, prepare an abstract proposal, conduct the research, and conclude the process with a paper and oral presentation or poster presentation. The University dedicates a day, the Student Research Conference, for these students to present their results to the student body and University community. Students at all academic levels, including freshman and graduate students, may participate and present their scholarly work at the conference.
