Approximately 500 Truman students study abroad each academic year. Students choose to study abroad during the summer or during the regular semesters. To begin the process of selecting a study abroad program, follow these steps:
Step One - Ask yourself these questions:
1. Evaluate your foreign language level of expertise. Are you prepared to take courses taught in a foreign language? Should the instructions be in English only?
2. Do you have a target country for the study abroad?
3. Are you interested in a study abroad experience coordinated and chaperoned by a Truman Professor?
4. Are you interested in finding a program that offers certain areas of study or certain classes?
5. Do you want to live with a family or in an apartment?
6. Do you desire a program that allows your Truman scholarships to assist with the costs?
Step Two - Visit the study abroad web site at to find potential study abroad programs and information.
Step Three - Visit the Center for International Education in Kirk Building 120 to seek more information and to receive answers to any questions that you have. Select one to three study abroad options and get listings of the specific courses that are taught in these programs. The Center can be helpful by providing printed materials or directing you to the appropriate web sites.
Step Four - Take the information that you have gathered to your academic advisor to discuss your options. Your academic advisor can help you begin the process to determine whether classes offered in the study abroad program(s) will fulfill requirements at Truman.
